Please give us a short summary of your website?
Web Rock City is an informational site, that focuses on a wide range of subjects. Our goal is to provide quality, educational, and fun to read articles while obtaining an objective view.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I am constantly digging for information on everything. I love to learn. Many 'informational' sites give you bulk information found all over the web with the inevitable sales pitch on whatever they are trying to sell. I created WebRockCity.com to provide everyone articles on everything you can imagine, without a sales pitch.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is actually my first serious website. I like to call my previous websites my "Frankenstiens". These were the sites that taught me what not to do. I reccomend everyboby build at least one frankenstien.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
You know, it was just one of those things. I worked for weeks trying to think of a name and one day, when I wasn't even thinking about the site Web Rock City just came to mind.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
You'll have to go there and make that decision for yourself. I think it's different because anyone can register and contribute to the content if they choose. There are tons of people out there that like to write just for the satisfaction of writing; I am one of them. Combine that with someone that has knowledge on a subject that others seek, and you have an author.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I don't know my eventual goal for webrockcity, right now I just want to watch it grow and become what I imagine it can be.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
To answer your question, we need to define what success means to me. Since I didn't create webrockcity.com with the intention of profit. and we seem to be getting some notice now, I'd have to say yes.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
That would depend on what Web Rock's user want. I want the site to be as user friendly as possible and I think I have accomplished that. In the end however it matters what the users want to see.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
This is one of the beutiful things about webrockcity.com, The more people that join, the better Web Rock becomes.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Get ready. If you're building a site i'd have to say the headaches, by far. The biggest being trying to find the perfect system to run on. I couldn't count the number of hours I have invested. Trying to find the perfect match.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Getting Web Rock noticed. It's as easy as just building a site and expecting people to show up. They have to know you're there.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Submitting to search engines and then doing everything neccessary to get them to notice me. It will help anyone to read googles seo guidliness and follow them.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
The amount of time I invest in it. I probably only need to spend about 1/10 of the time that I actually spend on Web Rock but I enjoy the site.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
Web Rock is a very young site but we'll be here as long as there is at least one registered member to browse.
Do you have any near future plans in development for Web Rock City?
I am currently working on a flash chat for my registered members to enjoy.
