Many families and people don't have workshops, that is a fact. But many have garages, which is also the same thing as saying they have a lot of storage space. Take my parents' garage for example. Its organized enough that they can fit both of their vehicles inside, but my father also has enough room to work on the one side of the garage. The amount of items stuffed into that one corner still amazes me to this day. And the thing is, its all organized as well. You ask him if he has this tool or this accessory and there is a 90% percent chance he does. And if he doesn't, that is what's coming home with him after his next yard sale run with my mother. The garage can be a prime example of where you're workshop can be... if you have the room that is. Don't go overboard and have the garage so filled with your tools that you can't even park you car inside. Of course, not everyone has a garage though. So if you have a shed in your backyard, why not set up shop there? Don't be afraid to clean it out and organize it either.
Going back to my father's setup, let's see what an ideal workshop in your garage can be. What he has is about a 10 foot long bench that he can work off of and has two shelves below it for extra storage space. Next to that he has one of those large shelves you would see at a hardware store. You know, the one that can have about 50 kinds of nails inside. Don't ask me where he got it. Also on the wall he has many of the larger tools mounted for easy access. And of course finally, he has his stereo with surround sound (an old radio he added speakers to) to pump out as much classic rock as he can. Now that sounds like an ideal working space doesn't it?
