Building custom furniture can be a challenging endeavor for the small company. We are a two person shop focusing on building high end custom furniture in a contemporary style. We love working with a customer to design the perfect piece to compliment their lifestyle. Ideally, our customers have an idea of what they want and where, have the taste for fine contemporary furniture, and have the understanding that the fine furniture we build is not created in a factory using the cheapest, most toxic industrial materials available. We build our pieces one at a time in the studio tradition, of the finest materials, with a strong sense of proportion and attention to detail. We are true craftsmen. The word craftsmanship has been thrown around by so many mediocre builders, the the general public has no idea what it means. People are also accustomed to manufactured materials such as particle board and MDF and don't realize, or possibly care, about the toxicity and disposability of these materials.
The way we build pieces can be considered "heirloom quality". Our pieces can be passed down through the generations and enjoyed for many decades to come. We are also active in the growing "green" movement and use only sustainably harvested woods, waterbased finishes and formaldehyde free glues.
We would love to hear from other woodworkers striving to break through the mis-conception that furniture should be disposable and built as cheaply as possibly. We need to work to keep the craft alive and educate the public that they do have a choice in their interior environment. Check out our website at Heather And Fred Studios
